On February 21 SC of Pakistan declared Ex PM Nawaz Shareef ineligible to be the President of the Political Party PML-N. In its verdict honourable Court said that all the ruled passed, directions and orders given or legal documents issued by Respondent No 4 (Nawaz Shareef) after being declared eligible in the verdict of 28th July 2017 declared have not been taken, issued, given or passed in the Light of Law.
PML-N was founded by Nawaz Shareef on 17th August 1988 after the instant death of military ruler General Zia-ul-Haq. Although Party didn’t managed to hold the federal government in its first local elections of 1988 but afterwards under Nawaz Shareef’s leadership party proved its self as representative of nation. Despite of being attacked and conspired by dictators several times party managed to hold its position again and again but this time things are different SC of Pakistan had declared Nawaz Shareef ineligible for holding any position in politics.
The Three members bench of Apex court leading by Chief Justice Saqib Nasar, comprising of Justice Umer Ata Bandyal and Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan announced by verdict of the case reserved on the petitions against Election Act 2017 which paved the way for Nawaz Shareef to be become the President of the Party.
PTI Chairman Imran Khan, Awami Muslim League (AML) Chairman Sheikh Rasheed, People Party and Zulfiqar Ahmed Bhutta were among the 13 petitioners, Challenging the Election Act 2017. The short order was announced by Justice Saqib Nasar, any person declared disqualified under article 62 and 63 cannot hold presidency of any political party, regardless of by what name they call and also prohibited from exercising of power privileged under article 63-A of constitution.
The court have directed Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to erase Nawaz Shareef’s name as president of PML-N from all the legally noticeable documents and relevant records. Moreover, Legal experts are of the opinion that Senate elections will not be distribute by this verdict as PML-N representatives in election will be consider as independent nominees, as papers have already been accepted by ECP.
